Meet some of the athletes and read what they have to say about Functional Fitness Coaching

Joe Skipper Elite Ironman Triathlete (8hr 17m IM Florida 2024)

" I am really enjoying the simplicity and speed of Xhale.  Mark Livesey  has designed something that is already helping me monitor my triathlon specific training, its quick to use, and the data is easily interpreted.  I especially like the interactive aspect. Being able to give and receive feedback instantly with Mark on a specific session that day is excellent"

Brian Fogarty 14th overall IM Bolton & 9hr.30 IM Kona World Championships 2024

Age 28
Played football as a child representing my town and county.  I left school and signed for Burnley FC.  Due to injury I stopped playing football and starting running for my local club competing in races of all terrains and distances.  My best perforamnces being amsterdam marathon in 2hr 45 and 3 Peaks Fell race in 3hrs 40.  After developing stress fractures in my leg I decided to turn my hand at triathlon.  In 2 yrs I have completed 2 Ironman races and am now looking to try and qualify for Kona!!

Due to me coming into the sport quite late I cant afford to waste any time.  Mark's coaching recognises my weakness and tells the best way to go about improving them. The way I see it is there must be a reason every top athlete/sportsman is coached!!

There are a lot of people out there trying to make triathlon into rocket science, which is confusing for newcomers to the sport. Mark keeps the performance testing simple and the training straight forward. I now understand what it takes to improve and train properly; this has become apparent in just a short period of time.  I'm now finishing on the podium and winning triathlon races increasing my confidence and my ability to reach my goal of gaining my Elite licence for Ironman.   It's the best investment I have made regarding money verses time saved.

Finally Mark has been successful in triathlon at all distances and is still winning races.  It is clear to see he knows what he's doing! So far I have been very impressed and have had a great start the season.

Mark Livesey is Yoda of triathlon coaching!

Barry Stephen Webb

Age: 34

10 years biathlon skiing at Army level, a number of long high profile distance races ( Cheviots, 3 peaks, Cyprus 100km, karimor 2 day, etc). Triathlon of recent.

I wanted to go to the next level of fitness and to have a well structured programme clearly defining my goals; but also to gain a better understanding in my training. I also wanted to raise my game in the triathlon world and reach my full potential.

I'm consider myself a well motivated individual and thought I was doing everything right. Wrong!  Mark first showed me how functionally weak I was and then continued to highlight all the areas that needed development for me to improve my performance, especially for Ironman.  I now know the importance of strength & conditioning training, something I never did, ever?  The testing hurts a lot but is very rewarding when you see the training is working, as Mark says "the numbers don't lie".  I have improved in all areas and I actually won a Sprint Triathlon last week!  I would never have improved this much spending thousands of pounds on a rear wheel, it's the best investment I have made.

Karen Peek

Age:  34

Two years ago I was a complete novice.  And I mean complete.  Wearing weight lifting gloves for cycling, no confidence to try cleats, panicking every time I cycled down a hill, no wetsuit and I considered transition to be black magic.    In September this year I represented Great Britain in my age group in the World Championships in London.

I could not have achieved my dream without the dedication, expertise and patience of Mark and Caroline Livesey.  You could not find two more dedicated triathletes and benefitting from their years of experience propelled my training and ability to new levels.  They patiently explained the simple concepts at the beginning and then worked with me to ensure that my training was personal, suitable to my ability and progress and fit around my full time job.  Their passion is contagious and their knowledge wide ranging, from physical to mental development, nutrition, and race preparation and tactics.

I had always thought that I could improve if only I knew how to.  Coming new into a sport, it is easy to think that if you just swim, cycle and run as much for as hard and long as possible, then you will improve.  Functional Fitness taught me how to train the clever way; how to rest, how to harness my strengths (in my case running) and improve my weakness (swimming - very log-like!).  I genuinely felt their investment; they wanted me to improve as much as I did and thus it was very much a team effort.

Looking back at that novice two years ago I cannot believe how far I have come thanks to Functional Fitness. I still have a long way to go, I know I can improve much further and know that Functional Fitness will be helping me get there!
